Sem Jansen (Helmond, 18-03-1992) is zanger, gitarist, songwriter en docent. Op zevenjarige leeftijd volgt hij zijn eerste gitaarles en kort daarop volgde zijn eerste zangles. Tijdens zijn middelbare schooltijd is hij actief in verschillende bands en volgt hij lessen aan de vakklas en de vooropleiding van het Fontys conservatorium te Tilburg. In 2009 start Sem de opleiding klassiek gitaar (Hein Sanderink, Marlon Titre, Enno Voorhorst, Johan Fostier) aan het Fontys conservatorium waar hij in 2013 afstudeert als uitvoerend musicus en gediplomeerd docent. Tevens wint Sem dit jaar de Jacques de Leeuw prijs, een prijs die ieder jaar wordt uitgereikt aan de meest prestigieuze student van de Fontys Hogeschool voor de Kunsten, en wordt hij toegelaten tot de master of music lichte muziek waar hij zang studeert bij Simone Roerade en gitaar bij Age Kat. Hier studeert hij in 2016 af.
Sinds eind 2011 maakt Sem deel uit van de Leif de Leeuw band als leadzanger en gitarist. Met deze band wint hij in 2014 de Dutch Blues Challenge en in 2015 wordt de band uitgeroepen tot ‘Best Band 2015’ tijdens de European Blues Awards. Inmiddels heeft de band een EP, zes albums en een aantal singles uitgebracht en tourt de band door binnen en buitenland met onder andere shows in Duitsland, Luxemburg, Zwitserland, Tjechië, Spanje, Hongarije, Polen, Oostenrijk, Slowakije, België, Frankrijk, China en de USA.
Daarnaast schrijft en speelt Sem veel Americana muziek welke hij uitvoert met zijn eigen band. In Januari 2023 zal zijn eerste album “Uncle Sem” uitkomen samen met de tour “Who the f*ck is Britt?!”. Tijdens deze tour en op dit album staan zijn transitie van zangeres naar zanger en het proces daar omheen centraal.

Sem Jansen (Helmond, the Netherlands, 18-03-1992) is a singer, guitar player, songwriter and teacher. At seven years old he started following guitar lessons, quickly followed up by singing lessons. During high school he was active in several bands and started lessons at a pre-education school for the conservatory in Tilburg where he started his bachelor in classical guitar at the age of seventeen. He had guitar lessons with Hein Sanderink, Marlon Titre, Enno Voorhorst and Johan Fostier and finished his bachelor in 2013. That year he also won the Jacques de Leeuw Prijs, an award for the most prestigious student of the Fontys school of arts in Tilburg. He started his Master of Music and changed from a classical focus to a pop/rock-education where he had singing lessons with Simone Roerade and guitar lessons with Age Kat. He graduated in 2016.
Sem has been the lead-singer and guitarist of the Leif de Leeuw band since late 2011. The band won the Dutch Blues Challenge in 2014 and was awarded with “Best Band 2015” during the European Blues Awards. The band released an EP in 2013 and from then on they continued to release six more albums and a few singles. They have been touring an increasingly amount in Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Spain, Poland, Hungary, Austria, Slovakia, Belgium, the Netherlands, China, France and the USA.
Sem also writes and playes a lot of Americana music which he performs with his band. In Januari 2023 he will release his first album by the name of “Uncle Sem” which will be accompanied with a tour called “Who the f*ck is Britt?!”. The main goal of this album and this tour is to take people along in his process from female to male and all that surrounded that transition.
